Day 1: Take in the memory verse. Slow down and read the memory verse for the week. Read it a a few more times. Think about each word. Take a minute to write it down on a note card or in a journal. Say it out loud. Carry the verse with you this week.
Day 2: Check the map and then follow the route. Chapter themes are like the signs that say “Welcome to…” They help you know exactly where you are on the journey. If you can memorize the chapter themes, you can map out the entire book! Study the Chapter theme and then read the text. Pay attention to how the theme connects to the text. Ask the question: “Does this passage tell me anything about Jesus?” Go back over your memory verse.
Day 3: Look under the hood. Review the chapter theme and your memory verse. Now, reread the text again. Did you notice anything new the second time through? Ask yourself this question, “What is God asking from me?” Hebrews is full of warnings. Ask yourself, “Are any of these warnings for me?”
Day 4: Share the Journey. Without looking, do you remember the chapter theme? Can you say the memory verse without looking yet? Read the text again, but this time, look for something you can share with a friend. Being able to talk about the text helps us build accountability, deeper spiritual friendships and helps us encourage others in their walk with Jesus.
Day 5: Look back on the trip. Go over the chapter themes for each week so far. See if you can recite your verse from memory. Read the text one last time. Take a few minutes to write a prayer to God. You can share what you’re learning, ask for wisdom or thank Him for what He’s done.
